GPA and How to Calculate It
Let’s start with the basics! Your GPA is just a way of converting your grades into a numerical scale. The grades that you receive in your high school classes are all averaged together to arrive at one cumulative grade, which is then converted into your GPA. The traditional GPA scale ranges from 0.0 to 4.0. Here at Rose this would be the unweighted scale. As you have probably seen by now some of our courses are offered in honors and/or AP and they are given additional weight on the GPA scale.
Standard Course an A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points, D = 1 point, F = 0 points
Honors Course an A = 4.5 points, B = 3.5 points, C = 2.5 points, D = 1.5 points, F = 0 points
AP Course an A = 5 points, B = 4 points, C = 3 points, D = 2 points, F = 0 points
So what does that really mean? Let's look at an example!
Say Ava Thomas took the following 4 classes her first semester and we wanted to figure out her GPA...
| Class | Final Grade | GPA Points |
| English 1 Honors | 97 | 4.5 |
| Health/PE | 99 | 4.0 |
| World History Honors | 89 | 3.5 |
| Foundations of Math 1 | 77 | 2.0 |
| Divide the # of courses by the total GPA points earned |
14/4= 3.5 weighted GPA |
You can also use online GPA calculators to help you with this.. High School GPA Calculator.
Field Trip Information
Field Trips: Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Pitt Academy & RISE, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. Field trips are a vital part of our educational program, providing students with valuable opportunities to connect classroom lessons with real-world experiences. These outings are designed to support our mission of nurturing creativity, shaping character, and showing students the positive change they can effect in their world.
To ensure every trip is safe, orderly, and productive, all field trips are conducted in strict accordance with Pitt County Schools district policy. A signed permission form from a parent or guardian is required for a student to participate in any off-campus trip.

MTSS
Our Approach to Student Success (MTSS)
Student Success & Support (MTSS)
Pitt Academy uses MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports), a Pitt County Schools priority, to help every student succeed. This framework allows us to personalize instruction and provide the right support for each student's academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
Our foundation is high-quality core instruction for all students, which includes:
-
Standards-Based Curriculum: Teaching based on state and district standards.
-
Active Student Engagement: Keeping students actively involved in learning through practice, participation, and helpful feedback.
-
Systematic Explicit Instruction: Teaching skills in a clear, direct, and step-by-step way.
-
Positive Behavior Strategies: Proactively teaching and reinforcing positive classroom behaviors and routines.
-
Differentiated Instruction: Adjusting teaching methods and content to meet each student's individual needs and readiness.
-
Flexible Grouping: Using a mix of whole-class, small-group, and one-on-one instruction to best support students.
The MTSS framework is guided by the district's Problem-Solving Manual. For more details on this process and how it supports your child, please see the resources below.
